Transition 2018

A very warm welcome to White Cliffs Primary College for the Arts. Over the course of Term 6 there will be plenty of opportunities for you and your child to meet the Reception Team. Below you will find a comprehensive timetable of the transition programme we offer.

The first date is a key one; Monday 11 June, at 6.00pm, is the new Reception Induction Meeting. This a meeting where we explain the induction programme to yourselves in detail. During this time, you will be able to sign up to Home Visits, Story Time sessions and have a chance to speak to members of staff about any immediate concerns or queries you may have. As this meeting is very information heavy, we ask that children do not attend. During this meeting you will also have the opportunity to tour the College, and see where your child will be in September.

The week beginning Monday 25 June, staff from the College will arrange to visit your child in their current nursery. This will be the first chance we will have to meet your child in a relaxed and familiar setting. The members of staff will also take this opportunity to speak to your child’s key worker and learn more about them.

As a College we feel that it is imperative that your child is familiar with their new environment before they start in September. For this reason, we offer Story Time sessions during our transition timetable. This is a time where you and your child can visit the College for an hour and play within the Reception classrooms together. For the last 10 minutes of each session, the teacher will read a story for everyone to enjoy. We will ask you to sign up to two Story Time sessions during the Reception Induction Meeting. If your child attends Pebbles Nursery (the onsite Nursery) on the day of a Story Time session, Pebbles staff will accompany them.

For children new to the College we ask you to sign up for a Home Visit. This is a time for staff to visit you and your child in the comfortable and safe environment of their home. Staff will have the opportunity to speak to you on a one to one basis, finding out about your child and your family. You will be able to ask questions you may have and share any information with us you feel necessary.

For Pebbles Nursery parents we will offer an in school interview where you can share information about your child and again ask any questions you may have.

To complete our transition programme, we would like to invite you and your child to a Teddy Bears Picnic on Friday 13 July. Here, we would like to ask your family and their teddies to come and join the Reception Team on the school field. We ask you to provide your own food and drinks due to possible food allergies. There will be games and activities for the children to enjoy, and it will give parents/carers the opportunity to meet all the other families joining the College in September.
