Combining this with the enthusiasm of the Year 5 White Cliffs scored strongly throughout the day and finished in a respectable position.
White Cliffs FC took part in what can be described as their best game of the season so far, playing Guston in a thrilling cup quarter final tie. It was really close end-to-end stuff for most of the game, complete with some amazing defending, superb goals and awesome penalty moments! Our goals were scored by Louis, who netted the first after some excellent link up play with Rylee down the left wing; and Rylee scoring the second following a corner and the third a well taken penalty that he slotted home well. We could have had a hatful more if all our chances had found the back of the net. Rylee and Brayden had some wonderful individual efforts, taking on many opposition players and were unlucky not to score. Brayden, Clayton, Leo and Brandon were solid in defence, and Ella’s tackling was superb as always. Goalkeeper Josh pulled off an heroic penalty save at a crucial point, keeping us in the game! With such a brilliant team effort from everyone it was impossible to decide on an individual Player of the Match, so the accolade was awarded to the whole team!
After the game Josh said "I saved a penalty and have not done that before. I just want to play again".
Our team were in action again this week, playing a home match against Hornbeam school. Despite some good passing play between Louis and Rylee, Leo making some timely interceptions, and Ella’s unflinching tackling, we were just not able to create opportunities in front of goal. The result did not go in the favour of White Cliffs with Hornbeam winning 7-0. Player of the Match was awarded to Louis, who thoroughly deserved the accolade for his respectful sportsmanship, generosity and positive attitude throughout the match. Squad: Josh (GK), Rylee (C), Louis, Clayton, Ella, Braydon, Leo and Brandon.

Our team captain Rylee was awarded Player of the Match for his all-round play, defending well and creating some good goal-scoring opportunities. Braydon and Leo are forming a good partnership in defence and have developed a great understanding, showing excellent positioning instincts and some good tackling. Leo made several timely interceptions and clearances, with Brayden on many occasions preventing the opposition players from creating obvious goal-scoring 1 on 1 chances against our ‘keeper. Brandon made a great full first team debut and looks like being a good addition to the team. Our 2 goals came from Clayton, who scored another cracking goal from distance; and Rylee who, after some nifty footwork, shot from inside the area beating the ‘keeper cleanly. Well done to all our players!
